Powys Skills Boost: 390 Adults Upskilled through Shared Prosperity Fund

Powys County Council, in partnership with Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and Myrick Training Services, has successfully delivered the "Expanded Numeracy Skills for Employed Adults" project.

This initiative, funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund, offered Excel courses and numeracy training to employed adults and teaching assistants across Powys.

"We developed a number of courses to support employed adults which improved their numeracy skills," explains Ceri Stephens, MWMG. "The program includes workshops, accredited courses, and bespoke training grants, benefiting 390 individuals through 43 courses in an 18-month period, with 114 achieving a qualification."

One participant shared their experience: "What I wanted to achieve from coming on this course is basically, from using other people's spreadsheets, to actually understanding creating my own spreadsheets, knowing how it all works, the new features that I've learned now enable me to do this.”

The impact of this training extends beyond individual skill development. As noted by another attendee, "Shared Prosperity's funding has been essential, in my view, to run these courses because it's upskilling the working population in Mid Wales. And everything's changing so fast, it's very easy to get left behind."
