Terrific Tee Off for Annual Mid Wales Business Charity Golf
8 teams took part in this years Mid Wales Charity Golf afternoon held at St Giles Golf Club in Newtown on Friday 30th June. The event was organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and Mid Wales Chamber of Commerce and companies from across the region took part in support of Newtown based Charity Small Steps.
This year’s 9 hole Texas Scramble competition saw teams of 4 made up of handicapped golfers and novices take to the greens and the final result was extremely close with the team from Alun Griffiths taking the title with a score of 26.6 points, followed by Harrisons Solicitors in second place with 29.1 and Whittingham Riddell and Lanyon Bowdler in third with 29.2.
The Nearest the pin completion was won by Mark Hale from Lanyon Bowdler team and the nearest the pin in two shots by Tim Davies of Cellpath.
The competition raised £171 for this years charity, Small Steps, the project works with younger people aged 16 to 25 to offer early intervention for those at risk of mental health problems or those already suffering mental distress such as depression, anxiety or who are self-harming.
Kemal Keeble, Recovery Practitioner for the project thanked participants for their support and went to explain“Our goal is to support young people and adults suffering from or at risk of mental illness. We are based in Newtown, Mid Wales, and provide a planned recovery programme adjusted to individual needs and aimed at the development of life skills, the restoration of self-respect and the resumption of meaningful activities.”
