Company History: The company is privately owned under the management of owner directors and have been trading since 1977. Managing Director Bill Brown and Sales Director Brenda Brown are both well known figures in the UK marine and safety business, having built up the business from a small engineering company originally based outside Fareham, on the South Coast of England. The company relocated to Newtown, Mid Wales, in 1989 and are now one of the leading manufacturing businesses in the Mid Wales region, employing 33 staff and active participants in local engineering training schemes.
Products: A comprehensive range of safety components, buckles, canopy and sail hardware and yacht equipment. Many unique and bespoke designs in stainless steel and nylon undertaken.
Markets: UK, as well as many leading companies in the international arena- with export sales to the USA, Japan, South Africa, Australia, Canada and all over mainland Europe.
Processes: As a company Makefast are renowned for offering exceptional customer service - its business is to provide solutions to customers problems. Having one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the UK safety industry with a range of in house capability that is unmatched. This includes, design and development, 3D solid modelling using solidworks, 3D CAM using Licom's Alphacam system, Moldflow analysis for plastic products. In house tensile testing, Laser cutting (stainless stell up to 6mm thick), 3D CNC Milling, CNC Turning, MIG and TIG welding, Injection moulding, Press work and metal forming, Tube bending. Finishing- Keramo polish, Assembly facilities.
General Facilities: As well as the Newtown facility, Makefast are also closely linked with Baseline Marine Limited, run by David Cozens (also a shareholder and Director of Makefast), based in Fareham and distributing a full range of marine hardware to the UK marine business, and Techniques Accastillage, a French based distribution business servicing the French marine and safety markets, also part owned and supported by Makefast.
