Apprenticeship Pathways in Wales: Key Insights from Regional Skills Partnership Meeting at the Senedd

A recent meeting of the Regional Skills Partnership brought together key figures from various Welsh regions at the Senedd, Cardiff, to discuss critical issues in employment and skills development, with a particular focus on apprenticeship pathways. Among the attendees was MWMG Group Manager, Ceri Stephens, who also serves as the chair of the manufacturing and engineering cluster group for the Mid Wales Regional Skills Partnership.

Key points from the meeting included:

1.       Employer-Centric Approach: The importance of listening to employers when developing skills and apprenticeship programs was emphasized.

5.       Work Experience: The meeting underscored the importance of work experience in preparing individuals for apprenticeships and careers.

6.       Funding Considerations: It was noted that increased apprenticeship provision would require appropriate budgeting.

The meeting also highlighted that cross-sector representation is crucial in ensuring that apprenticeship pathways are aligned with the needs of key industries in Wales. 

The discussion reflected a commitment to enhancing apprenticeship pathways in Wales, recognising their crucial role in addressing skills gaps and supporting economic growth. 

By focusing on employer needs, improving data utilisation, and creating clearer pathways, we can strengthen the apprenticeship landscape across Wales.
