A Welsh company whose innovative digital technology could help save manufacturers millions of pounds has been recognised as a business with high growth potential.
POET Systems Ltd., based in Bridgend, has been accepted onto two programmes for fast-growing firms - Innovate UK’s EDGE Scaleup Programme and the Welsh Government’s Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme.
The company has developed a cloud-based platform, called POET, to help manufacturers improve performance, save time and reduce waste.
It will now gain bespoke support to help take the business to the next level, including advice on how to access new markets, make new connections and attract growth capital.
Mid Wales specialist gear company wins prestigious national award
A Mid Wales engineering company, which has developed a multi-skilled and flexible workforce to become a leading name in specialist gear transmissions for more than 50 years, has won a prestigious national award.
Compact Orbital Gears, which has a workforce of 43 based in Rhayader, was named the Small Employer of the Year at the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2021 virtual ceremony.

A new business that aims to save manufacturers millions of pounds a year has been launched in Wales.
POET Systems Ltd, has developed a bespoke cloud-based software system that is designed to improve performance, save time and reduce waste.
The unique digital platform provides manufacturers with detailed data about their production processes, giving a complete view of operational performance in real time.
It allows managers the time to work on areas for improvement and make decisions based on the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Invertek produces its two millionth variable frequency drive
Variable frequency drives (VFD) innovator and manufacturer Invertek Drives has reached a significant milestone with the production of its two millionth drive.
The milestone comes after Invertek announced record sales during 2020 and the first quarter of 2021. It follows significant continued year-on-year growth since the company was established 23 years ago.

Now, Control Techniques’ Commander general purpose drives will be produced entirely at the organisation’s UK manufacturing headquarters in Newtown, Wales. Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) launches next Phase 1 funding opportunity
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), in collaboration with Innovate UK, has today launched the next opportunity to bid for funding from the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF).
We recently announced our intention to hold another Phase 1 competition window this spring due to the large amount of interest we have received.
Thirty nine applications from the first Phase 1 competition window, totalling £31 million, have been approved for funding subject to final due diligence checks. Details of successful awards will be published in due course.
