The Welsh Government hosted the first regional roadshow in Newtown yesterday (11th December 2018) to sign post Manufacturing Support that SMEs can tap in to.

Member company Faber Technology, the plastic injection moulding specialists based on the Mochdre Industrial estate in Newtown, recently took part in the UK Governments Parliamentary Review into manufacturing.

Nearly 700 young people from Welshpool took part in a series of workshops to support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) last week. The sessions had been arranged by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group to support the Futureproofing Engineering Skills Provision in Powys Project which is supported by Powys County Council.  The aim of this project is to ensure the future growth and development of the manufacturing and engineering sector in Powys by helping to address the skills and training barriers being faced by the industry.

Young People in Powys were able to enjoy one of the last days of their Christmas holidays by taking part in a Rocket Making Day in Montgomery. Over 20 young people took up the opportunity with organisers Mid Wales Manufacturing Group.

Mid Wales Manufacturing Group recently gave evidence at the National Assembly’s Economy Committee and has been working with Powys & Ceredigion Councils and other public and private sector representatives on the Growing Mid Wales Partnership looking at an Economic Framework for the region.

Responding to the needs of members identified in the Skills Survey earlier this year, NPTC in Newtown is now able to offer a full range of engineering qualification right through from a level 2 Performing Engineering Operations NVQ to a HNC in Engineering.  This progression is an important step in contributing to the Futureproofing of engineering in Mid Wales ensuring we have the right people with the right skills.
